Hey there!
Just thought I’d start a little “Friday Video” concept going on on my blog, each and every Friday! In other words, I’d like to feature African Wildlife Videos on a weekly basis! Will research new ones every week, and would be very grateful and happy to share some of yours as well if you have any (and are willing to share them)??? You can contact me via @Africafreak on Twitter, or by email: info@africafreak.com. Comments welcome as well, as always!
This first video was filmed a couple of years back in the Masai Mara Reserve, Kenya. It involves cheetahs with a kill…and hyenas!
Watch it, and let me know what you think underneath!
Enjoy

Amazing! It must be so exciting to see this in person.
Hey Anil!
Great question!
Although I’m no expert on this particular matter, here are some possibilities:
1. The stomach is full, as the wildebeest had just been eating before getting killed. I’ve seen it a couple of times in the bush, and this one time our guide actually opened up the stomach so we could see what was inside! Pretty impressive, and plenty of fine particles of grass…just like when you mow your lawn, except even finer!
2. The stomach blows up as it gets into contact with the outside air!
3. There’s plenty of bacteria inside our stomachs. In other words, these little fellows (known as decomposers), produce chemical reactions through respiration, eating habits, etc. These reactions cause the stomach to increase in volume.
Hope that makes sense in some way…that’s my theory on the matter.
Any other people with a different view?
Cheers
Thanks for the answers, I think those are pretty on target. I guess they can put away a lot of grass, they eat all day it seems!
…on target, although not that I know any better
Awesome video.
BTW, I love your site.
Thanks Christine, very grateful for your kind comment! Doing my best in providing useful & entertaining info!
All the best,
Mike
As if cheetahs don’t have enough problems! At least they got their fill too. Any idea why the stomach blows up like that?
