Cheetahs are exceptional hunters and can outrun their prey thanks to outstanding speed and power! Against most species, the cheetah’s pace and agility is usually enough to make a kill.

In this video nevertheless, you will soon find out that the gemsbok’s arguments may not necessarily include speed, but it sure can dissuade the majority of predators out there.

Enjoy! ;)

Dwindling Rivers and Action to Rescue Them

South Africa’s freshwater systems are in poor condition with 82% of main river ecosystems threatened, and institutional arrangements compound the problem. While the Department of Water Affairs (DWA) is the national department responsible for the management of water resources, the Department of Environmental Affairs (DEA) is mandated to manage and conserve biodiversity. Environmental education and awareness for all water users needs to be a vital component of government’s plan for the future of water resources in this country.

The Cheetah’s Unique Adaptations!

The cheetah (Acinonyx jubatus) is a member of the cat family (Felidae) of which both Lion and Leopard are a part of. The Cheetah though, is unique in that it has adapted and evolved for high speed chases over short distances.Check out some of these fascinating adaptations which allow the Cheetah to reach speeds in excess of 100km/hour!

    Hello Michael

Bravo Gemsbok!! Love a happy ending ;-)
Feel sorry for the mother Cheetah, not seeing their young ever again.
Is it true that although they have great speed it does not last very long?

Great Video – Thank you :-)

Glad you enjoyed it Cheryl, it sure is a fab footage! :)

You are most definitely correct, the cheetah can reach speeds of up to 113 kph (70 mph), but it can only do so for a couple hundred meters. If it were to do it for longer, the animal would die due to overheating.

Its muscles begin to tire as well, and produce lactic acid from exhaustion.

Here's another video if you wish to learn more about these fascinating creatures:
