Who Are They?
Dereck & Beverly Joubert are legendary wildlife filmmakers, photographers, writers and conservationists who have dedicated the last 25 + years of their existence for the protection of wildlife; especially big cats! Over time, their role as conservation ambassadors has proven to be essential!
“We have to understand that everything is connected, and as soon as we understand that we are a part of every system in Earth, the easier it will be for us to find that balance here instead of forever being in conflict with nature, its wild animals and wild places.” – Dereck & Beverly Joubert.
Big Cat Initiative
Their latest project, “The Big Cat Initiative”, is an alarming call to action in order to save some of the last big cats on this planet!
Sadly, the current statistics are staggering:
Lion population:
- 50 years ago: 450 000.
- Today: ONLY 20 000.
Cheetah population:
- 50 years ago: 50 000.
- Today: 12 000.
Leopard population:
- Before (1950s): 700 000.
- Now: 50 000.
